Mr Vince Cable, the Business Secretary, has recently made it known that banks are “not acting in the national interest”. This is because many of the banks do not tend to be lending to small companies and some small companies are failing, maybe because of lack of funding. From the banks side, they state that they have lent out £6.8bn in June this year, but also state that companies are reluctant to take on overdrafts when the economic viewpoint is so uncertain. Mr Cable has identified dividends and bonuses as cash that could be better used for small company overdrafts and he has talked about a “carrot and stick” approach if the banks do not change.

While this change will be welcomed by small companies, no doubt, for a small company that is waiting for payment of an late invoice with a large company, for services supplied or items supplied, this might well come too late if they are in need of the invoice payment. The small company would no doubt get in touch with the large company when the invoice goes late, to discover what is happening with their invoice, and hope to receive a reasonable outcome. If they don’t get a reasonable outcome then they might feel that they are being used as a free credit service and then check up on Debt Collection. Their financial status can easily influence which Debt Collection strategy they can take, where the usual Debt Collection providers of lawyers and Debt Collection Agencies will charge from 10% to 20% or more of the invoice value. Selecting a DIY approach by using Debt Collection Software can cost around £40 for a decent Debt Collection Software package, but the small company will have to allow for the designation of resources such as members of staff, and time to balance out the lack of professional members of staff that lawyers and Debt Collection Agencies have available for Debt Collection contracts. Money mightbe tight and the Business Secretary might not be able to get the banks to both offer funding and at an affordable price before they get the late invoice paid, so their best path might well be Debt Collection Software. A further cost benefit of Debt Collection Software is that it is a one off purchase and so can be used for any future Debt Collection activities that they have to deal with, whereas lawyers and Debt Collection Agencies will bill for their services every time.

To balance out the lack of know how in Debt Collection, the small company will need to pay careful attention to the documentation that accompanies the Debt Collection Software, in particular any coaching modules, either as part of the Debt Collection Software itself or online from the producers of the Debt Collection Software, to bring them up to speed in the Debt Collection operation. They will need particular guidance in how to generate good quality Debt Collection letters since these are at the core of the Debt Collection operation. Useful information that should be imparted includes any present Acts of Parliament and any good phrases that Debt Collection Agencies use. The members of staff selected to generate the Debt Collection letters should have a good understanding of English so that the Debt Collection letters won’t have any spelling or grammatical oversights in them when they are sent out as this can disrupt the Debt Collection operation.

If the small company and its members of staff work hard on the Debt Collection Software and generate good quality Debt Collection letters that they are almost sure to have a good chance of getting the large company to pay the late invoice and for a much cheaper price that lawyers and Debt Collection Agencies would have charged them.

The election verdict being a hung parliament really puts the forthcoming Acts of Parliament in the balance, since there will be deals to be made if a government is to be formed and who knows what could be open to discussion. Certainly the business community has been worried by the proposed National Insurance rises as bad for any recovery to happen. Then the proposed increase will certainly impact upon any acquisitions or movement of premises and could therefore compromise acquisitions or downsizing that could have assisted small organisations to stay in business.

For a small enterprise having done work for a larger enterprise and now having to wait for completion, this puts further pressure on their plans for the future. In most cases the small enterprise will have communicated with the large enterprise to uncover what is being done, since if they have worked together for many years this could well be the first late payment. If the reply is unacceptable then the small enterprise could well look to Debt Collection options to their problem, feeling fully justified as they have done the work and now are owed payment, which has been withheld.

When looking at their Debt Collection options, the small enterprise could be influenced by several key factors, such as, how much they can afford to set aside, and can they risk tarnishing the working relationship they have with the large enterprise. The current economic situation can influence their cash position, and the working relationship could be important if they have a restricted number of revenue streams and cannot afford to lose any, or indeed have their reputation spoilt. The cash position alone could preclude the use of more accepted Debt Collection choices such as solicitors or Debt Collection companies, but the economic situation has seen a dramatic rise in the number of Debt Collection companies and it could be a risk for the small enterprise to trust their reputation with some of them. This leaves them with a Debt Collection solution they handle with their available resources, Debt Collection Software. Rather than relying on independent Debt Collection companies or solicitors, the small enterprise has to have the dedication to accept this challenge and will have to rely on the organisation who developed the Debt Collection Software suite for help. A good Debt Collection Software suite should be developed with a new user in mind so the manual should have a section on how the Debt Collection process works and how to manager it. There should also be a section on how to generate Debt Collection Letters since these make up the heart of the Debt Collection process and cannot be underestimated. This leads onto resources which the small enterprise needs to provide, the most important being workers, especially those allocated to generate the Debt Collection Letters, since these workers will need to have a good command of English. These Debt Collection Letters will be sent out to the large enterprise as part of the Debt Collection process but they will also be viewed as how the small enterprise looks and so any spelling or grammatical issues can put the small enterprise in a bad light and derail the Debt Collection process.

With dedication and attention to detail with the Debt Collection Software, the small enterprise has a good chance of getting the large enterprise to pay the bill, where good quality Debt Collection Letters will have played a major part.

The Office of National Statistics has reported that the UK economy has grown to 1.1% in the second quarter, which is way better than the predicted growth of 0.6%. The improvement areas were services and construction, but transport was down, presumably from the repercussions of the Icelandic volcanic ash clouds that prevented flying for so long. So if the large organisation in question is within the services or construction area then they should see their revenue growing and now be amenable to release funds to pay the bill to the small organisation. The small organisation might well communicate with the large organisation to get to know about the bill and would hope that they get a positive reply. If the large organisation still delays clearance then the small organisation might feel justified in starting Debt Collection measures, but their financial position might well influence the Debt Collection direction.

If the small organisation has growing profits because of the upturn in the economy then they might well simply pass the Debt Collection work onto a normal Debt Collection service provider such as lawyers or Debt Collection Agencies. While this might seem an easy result, the small organisation might not be aware that the recession has seen a growth in the numbers of Debt Collection Agencies and lawyers that are offering business Debt Collection services. It would not be unusual to learn that some of these newer Debt Collection Agencies or lawyers are not as professional as existing ones, but it might be difficult| for the small organisation to tell the difference between good and bad lawyers and Debt Collection Agencies. The costs for lawyers and Debt Collection Agencies are around 10% to 20% or more of the bill value, so even if their financial position are OK, the small organisation might not wish to give up up to 20% of the bill value.

The alternative Debt Collection direction is to use Debt Collection Software which will allow the small organisation to take on the Debt Collection project with their own resources, and around the £40 mark buys a decent Debt Collection Software suite. Of course the small organisation won’t have a team of skilled members of staff like Debt Collection Agencies and lawyers have, so they will have to look to what resources they have of members of staff and time. When looking at Debt Collection Software applications, the documentation set should be checked out minly since it will provide information on training, so that the members of staff in the small organisation can learn about the Debt Collection process and how to use the Debt Collection Software at the same time. There will need to be members of staff allocated to compose Debt Collection letters since these are at the core of the Debt Collection process and the members of staff chosen should have a good knowledge of English so that there won’t be any mistakes in Debt Collection letters that are sent out. The documentation set should provide specific guidance on how to compose these Debt Collection letters and include any present laws as well as any clever wording that Debt Collection Agencies use.

Provide the members of staff in the small organisation pick up the Debt Collection process quickly and can compose good quality Debt Collection letters, they must have a good chance of using the Debt Collection Software to encourage the large organisation to pay the bill. They will have completed this at a cheaper price than lawyers or Debt Collection Agencies would charge and they also can use the Debt Collection Software for any future Debt Collection projects that come along at little or no extra cost, rather than having to pay the fees for lawyers and Debt Collection Agencies each time.

The finance houses do not appear to be treating small firm clients very well, even treating them badly in some cases it looks. In one case the owner of a small firm, when it was time to review his overdraft, his finance houses representative recommended that he take out a business loan to cover the current overdraft. He carried out these instructions only to find that his overdraft had then been dropped from £10,000 to £1,000, which put him in an awkward position when it comes to Debt Collection. The typical Debt Collection services such as legal practices and Debt Collection Agencies set charges from 10% to 20% or more of the bill value, which could comprise a crucial part of the profit. Also, if the small firm uses legal practices or Debt Collection Agencies they will want to know that they use Fair Debt Collection Practice, since saving the client base will be crucial for the small firm. The economic downturn has brought about a rise in the Debt Collection Agencies and legal practices that are offering business to business Debt Collection services, but some of these newer Debt Collection Agencies and legal practices, could not be sticking to Fair Debt Collection Practice and so could threaten the future of the small firm by not employing Fair Debt Collection Practice when dealing with the clients who owe money.

The small firm could wish to consider taking on the Debt Collection project themselves by using Debt Collection software, which will let them be in control of dealings with the clients concerned. A decent Debt Collection software package can be bought for around £40, but naturally the small firm will have to ear mark their own resources since they won’t have teams of personnel expert in the Debt Collection procedure like legal practices and Debt Collection Agencies have. Similarly the personnel in the small firm will need to get to know about the Debt Collection procedure and how to administer the Debt Collection software in that context. The documentation set that is part of[/spin] the Debt Collection software should be able to supply the necessary guidance in the details of the Debt Collection procedure and especially how to write Debt Collection letters. The personnel will need to be coached in Fair Debt Collection Practice and also have knowledge of any suitable Acts of Parliament that can be utilised. Also, any wording that Debt Collection Agencies and legal practices use would be helpful. The personnel singled out to write the Debt Collection letters should have a good command of English so as to avoid any spelling or grammatical oversights in the Debt Collection letters, since these could disrupt the Debt Collection procedure.

So by carefully studying the Debt Collection procedure, being fully aware of the Fair Debt Collection Practice that should be used as well as suitable Acts of Parliament, the personnel writing the Debt Collection letters should be able to write good quality and effective Debt Collection letters that will be able to persuade the clients to pay the unpaid bill as soon as possible. At the same time by adopting Fair Debt Collection Practice, the small firm should be able to hang on to their clients and at a cheaper price than legal practices and Debt Collection Agencies would charge. Lastly they will have the Debt Collection software available to be brought into play for any future Debt Collection situations at little or no extra cost. Whereas legal practices and Debt Collection Agencies would charge for each and every Debt Collection contract they take on.

Despite the economic downturn and bailing out of finance houses by the Government, finance houses are still filling their bonus pots rather than helping small companies. Where finance houses do lend to small companies they seem to be setting high rates of interest, which could well put a lot of small companies off. Where a small business has sent an bill into a large business for supplied or merchandise delivered and then have seen the bill become unpaid, this could get the small business concerned about when they will receive clearance. They would get in touch with the large business firstly to find out what was happening and hope that they get a satisfactory outcome. If that was not the result then they could feel put out and believe that they are being seen as a free credit service rather than a valued supplier of merchandise or services. The small business could well then turn to Debt Collection as a way of getting the unpaid bill settled, but they will need to be careful when it comes to deciding on a Debt Collection service.

The economic downturn has brought about a growth the number of usual Debt Collection services such as legal practices and Debt Collection Agencies, and while many of them will be trustworthy in their approach and stick to Fair Debt Collection Practices, there is a good chance that there will be some legal practices and Debt Collection Agencies that see Fair Debt Collection Practices as just another difficulty in the way of them making money. How the small business is supposed to tell good from bad legal practices and Debt Collection Agencies is anyone’s guess, but the risk that the small business could be taking is to the commercial relationship they could well have developed with the large business. Any legal practices or Debt Collection Agencies that do not stick to Fair Debt Collection Practices could easily harm that commercial relationship to the extent that the small business could not get any further work or orders from the large business and worse still, word could spread in the local commercial area which could ruin the small business.

The best way forward for the small business could well be to use their entrepreneurial spirit and use Debt Collection software, so that they can use it with their available resources. The cost of Debt Collection software is about £40 for a good application of Debt Collection software, but for legal practices of Debt Collection Agencies the cost could be about 10% to 20% or more of the bill total, so for any bill for £400 or more it could be better to use Debt Collection software. obviously the small business will need to set aside resources for the Debt Collection project and they will also have to get to know how the Debt Collection software works as well as what the Debt Collection operation is all about. The important parts of this are essentially what the Fair Debt Collection Practices are and then how to create good Debt Collection letters. The Debt Collection letters are at the centre of the Debt Collection operation and so the people assigned to create them should have a good knowledge of English if errors are to be avoided. Knowledge of Fair Debt Collection Practices can help in giving the Debt Collection letters a better chance of getting the large business to settle the unpaid bill, while at the same time doing it in a way that should keep the commercial relationship.

The financial turmoil that has hit some European countries such as Greece, Spain and Portugal, where they have seen their economies suffer and almost faced bankruptcy, only to be saved, almost at the eleventh hour, by other eurzone countries, has caused much concern in the money markets. While the UL economy has large debts, there is still money available in the finance houses to lend to small businesses, but the unrest has caused interest rates to be somewhat punitive, making small businesses think twice about taking on an expensive business loan. Where a small business needs financial support to see it through because it has not been paid by a large business for jobs completed[/spin] or products supplied, they may find themselves between a rock and a hard place, with money either coming from expensive bank loans or credit cards. They need to chase up the overdue bill with the large business and their first action will be to make contact with them to uncover what is happening. If they don’t get a positive answer then they may feel pressured into finding out about their Debt Collection strategies.

The accepted Debt Collection providers; solicitors and Debt Collection Agencies tend to charge in the order of 10% to 20% or more of the bill value, which may be a significant sacrifice for the small business. If the small business is looking for a challenge they may take on the Debt Collection process in-house and use Debt Collection Software, which can cost around £40 for a decent Debt Collection Software package. In reality the small business may neither have the knowledge in Debt Collection, nor the teams of experienced employees that solicitors and Debt Collection Agencies have, so they will have to both get to know in detail about the Debt Collection process and designate resources to make the Debt Collection Software package deliver the goods. During their required consideration of Debt Collection Software suites, attention should be paid to the instructions as this will be a useful source of information and training materials so that they can educate themselves about the Debt Collection process within the context of the Debt Collection Software. One of the key stages of the Debt Collection process is Debt Collection letters, since these are a fundamental communications link between the two businesses it is important that these are written with care. The employees nominated to creating the Debt Collection letters will need to have a good knowledge of English since it would be harmful to the Debt Collection process if any Debt Collection letters were sent out with spelling or grammatical mistakes present. The primary purpose of using Debt Collection Software is not just to save money over what solicitors and Debt Collection Agencies would charge but to be in control of the Debt Collection process. The small business will not only want to get the large business to pay the overdue bill but will also want to do so in a way that will not disrupt the commercial relationship that may well have developed between the two businesses. The present financial situation has brought a growth in the number of solicitors and Debt Collection Agencies and it may well be the case that some of the more recent solicitors and Debt Collection Agencies to enter the business Debt Collection market may not be ethically minded and for the small business so sign up with one of these may be disaster, not only from how much it may cost but also in possibly damaging the commercial relationship with the large business.

The poor financial climate has brought many issues to companies, large and small, but when a small, business is left waiting for a large business to pay an overdue bill, then to see finance houses posting large profits and paying out bonuses, but refusing to extend overdrafts must be hard to accept. If the small business is in need of a loan to tide them over till this bill is paid, but has been refused overdraft facilities by the finance houses, they could need to look at ways of asking the large business to pay the overdue bill. If the small business has carried out jobs or provided equipment for the large business for some years it is a good chance that they have nurtured a good business relationship and this is something that neither business should want to lose. For the small business it means possible future trade and for the large business it means a dependable supplier, so, if the small business decides that Debt Collection proceedings are the best option, they have to be sure that Fair Debt Collection Practice are followed in order to safeguard this business relationship.

The poor financial climate has brought not only debts and unsettled bills, but also those who would exploit this situation, if the increase in Debt Collection Agencies and legal practices that are offering commercial Debt Collection is anything to go by. While there could well be many Debt Collection Agencies and legal practices that abide by the Fair Debt Collection Practice, there could well also be those who’s motivation is to get the Debt Collection activity over and done with as soon as possible and collect the money. Working to Fair Debt Collection Practice could well be of no concern to them. This could put the small business into a difficult position when they come to investigate their paths for a Debt Collection solution, since they could well have no way of deciding between good and bad Debt Collection Agencies and legal practices, and those not following Fair Debt Collection Practice could well destroy the business relationship beyond repair.

There is an alternative Debt Collection method that will allow the small business to take on the Debt Collection project internally and that is Debt Collection software. This will allow the small business to be in full control of transactions between themselves and the large business and assuming that they abide by Fair Debt Collection Practice, they should be able to retain that important business relationship. Naturally, the small business will need to supply their own resources such as employees and time and they will need training in how the Debt Collection activity works and what the Fair Debt Collection Practice are all about. The employees chosen to write Debt Collection letters will need to have a good understanding of English so that there won’t be any mistakes in the Debt Collection letters that get sent to the large business. They will also need training in pertinent legislation that can be implemented and it would be so useful if phrases that Debt Collection Agencies use could be included in the tuition.

In this way the small business has a good chance of asking the large business to pay the overdue bill and by understanding and used the Fair Debt Collection Practice that should also be able to retain the business relationship. All this should be achievable at a much cheaper price than Debt Collection Agencies and legal practices would have charged, and the small business will have the Debt Collection software available for use next Debt Collection project at little or no extra cost.
